BSP supremo Mayawati on Thursday said that she could aspire to become the prime minister or the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh but had no ambition to become the President of the country even as she slammed Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav over his claim that she nurtured dream to be the President of the country.

''I may nurture dreams to become the PM or CM of the state but not the President of the country,'' Mayawati said, stressing that she would remain active in the politics of the state.

The BSP president was reacting to the claim by Akhilesh that Mayawati was aspiring to become the next President of the country with BJP's help. ''The SP is spreading rumours about me to create confusion among my supporters,'' she added.

Mayawati also held Akhilesh responsible for the return of the BJP to power in UP in the recently concluded Assembly elections. ''BJP came to power as the SP failed to win support of every section of the population....Both BJP and SP had a tacit understanding and both the parties tried to polarise the elections along communal lines.....this polarisation helped the BJP,'' she said.

She said that the Muslims of the state were very 'angry' with the SP as the latter had failed to take up the alleged persecution of the community under the BJP regime. ''Muslims will never support the SP again,'' she said.

Mayawati had come under attack from the Congress and SP during the Assembly polls in the state for what the two parties alleged an 'understanding' between the BSP and the saffron party.

BSP managed to win only one seat in the 403-member Assembly. BJP and its allies had won 275 seats while the SP, with its alliance partners, managed to win 125 seats. Congress had won two seats.
