Will not allow Abdullahs, Muftis to divide India: Modi

Last Updated 14 April 2019, 09:47 IST

Asserting that Jammu and Kashmir was integral part of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that no one would be allowed to demand a separate prime minister for the state to “divide” the country.

“We will never allow those people to succeed who want a separate prime minister for the state. Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India,” he said while addressing an election rally in Kathua district of Jammu.

Modi was responding to former chief minister and National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah’s recent statement that if his party comes back to power, they will strive to restore the pre-1953 position of the state, having ‘sadr-e-riyasat’ (governor) and’wazeer-e-aala’ (prime minister.)

“I will never allow ‘Doo Nishan, Doo Vidhan and Doo Pradhan’ (Two constitutions, two flags and two sovereign heads) to rule in our land. Our motive is that of Syama Prasad Mukherjee,” the Prime Minister said.

He said that Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) commitment and ‘Desh Ka Chowkidar’ (referring to himself) carried the same emotions as Mukherjee.

Lashing out at regional parties, National Conference (NC) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Modi alleged that three generations of the state have been destroyed due to their “dynastic” rule.

“Three generations of the state got destroyed by Abdullahs and Muftis. But I am standing like a wall in front of them. The bright future of J&K can be ensured only after their departure. This Chowkidar is here to throw them out of power,” he said.

He said that even if all the relatives of both the parties come to help them in this election the people will still vote against them.

Campaigning for Minister of State in PMO Jitendra Singh, who is seeking re-election from Udhampur Lok Sabha seat, Modi said people in Jammu and Kashmir voted in large numbers in the first phase of polls and “rattled” terrorist leaders, opportunists and demoralised the “mahamilavat” alliance.

Criticizing the Congress, the prime minister said they won’t succeed in ‘disintegrating’ the motherland (India). “Congress is doing everything to come back to power. They (Congress) want to do away with the AFSPA but the BJP will never allow them to do so,” Modi said and added the armed forces and security agencies operating in the state need the protection of the AFSPA.

He blamed the Congress for migration of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley in 1990, saying the BJP is committed to bringing the community back to their land. “The Congress was so concerned about their vote bank, that they pretended not to see atrocities against my Kashmiri Pandit brothers and sisters,” Modi added.
