The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday filed a chargesheet against six accused in Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) commander Naveed Jatt’s escape case.

In the chargesheet filed in the NIA special court in a Jammu special court, it has been revealed that the plot to free the dreaded Pakistani militant was made in Central Jail Srinagar, where he was lodged.

Jatt escaped from Srinagar’s SMHS Hospital in February this year, killing two policemen in the escort party in the incident. He was taken for a medical checkup from the central jail to the hospital on court directions.

A statement issued by the premier investigation agency said it filed a chargesheet against Mohammad Tika Khan, Shakeel Ahmad Bhat, Syed Tajmul Islam Kirmani, and Mohammad Shafi Wani.

The agency, in its investigation, claimed that the accused conducted meetings in the Central Jail, Srinagar on different dates before the incident and a "comprehensive plan was made to effect the escape of Jatt".

"As per the plan and in furtherance of the criminal conspiracy, the accused conducted a detailed recce of the SMHS Hospital as well as routes to be followed before and after the action," it said, adding the accused also arranged vehicles and weapons to be used in the execution of the plan.

While Tika Khan, Shakeel Bhat, Tajmul Islam and Shafi Wani were arrested by the NIA earlier, Jatt and Hilal are absconding, against whom non-bailable warrants have been issued by the NIA special court.
