Pulwama:Over 20 kids injured in blast at tuition centre

More than two dozen students were wounded in a mysterious blast at a school in Kakapora area of volatile Pulwama district in south Kashmir on Wednesday.

Reports said that the blast took place inside a private school in Narbal area of Kakapora, 26 km from here, where the students were getting winter tuition at around 2 pm.

Dr Wahid, medical officer, public health centre (PHC) Kakapora, told reporters that 14 students with splinter injuries were brought to the facility. “Three among the injured were referred to Srinagar for specialised treatment,” he said, adding that the students had received injuries mostly in their limbs.

Three more injured were shifted to district hospital Pulwama for treatment.

Block Medical Officer (BMO) Pampore Dr Muhammad Yousuf said 11 injured were shifted to sub-district hospital Pampore.

A police spokesperson while confirming the incident said some explosion took place inside the Class X room of a private school (tuition centre) known as ‘Falai-e-Millat’ in Pulwama.

“In this incident, 12 students reportedly have sustained injuries. They were rushed to the hospital and stated to be stable,” he said and added police have reached the spot and are ascertaining the nature and circumstances of the blast.

Reports said clashes erupted in the area after the news about the injuries to the students spread.
