The Supreme Court on Wednesday gave four days protection from arrest Roshan Giri and Bimal Gurung, leaders of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha.
The top court told them to approach the Calcutta High Court within four days with their plea for protection to enable them to participate in the Lok Sabha elections 2019.
A bench of Justices Arun Mishra, Mohan M Shantanagoudar and Navin Sinha, however, said no coercive actions would be taken against the leaders till then.
Both the leaders sought protection from arrests till the elections in Darjeeling constituency.
They claimed the West Bengal government had falsely foisted over 30 cases against them for their agitation for a separate state.
Giri is learnt to be keen file nomination papers from Darjeeling.
