Political compulsions can bring together even sworn enemies.

Once bitter foes, BSP supremo Mayawati and Samajwadi Party (SP) patron Mulayam Singh Yadav would be campaigning for each other in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.

According to the sources, Mayawati will be campaigning in the Mainpuri LS constituency from where Mulayam is the SP nominee.

''Mayawati will be addressing an election rally at Mainpuri on April 19,'' said a senior SP leader here on Friday. Voting would held in Mainpuri in the third phase of polling on April 23.

Mayawati and Mulayam had turned foes after the BSP had withdrawn its support to the SP-BSP coalition government and joined hands with the BJP to form another coalition government in the state in 1995.

Angry over the withdrawal of support, SP workers had attacked Mayawati, while she was holding meeting with her party workers at the state 'Guest House' on Meerabai Marg here on June 2, 1995.

Mayawati was saved by Bramha Dutt Dwivedi, a senior BJP leader. Since then the two parties never tied up and remained bitter foes.

Though it was not yet clear if Mayawati would be contesting the elections, Mulayam would also be campaigning for the BSP in the constituencies from where its nominees were in the fray.

SP-BSP and RLD have entered into an electoral alliance in the forthcoming LS polls. BSP will be contesting on 38 seats while SP and RLD will contest 37 and three seats respectively. Two seats-Amethi and Raebareli- have been left for the Congress..
