Rahul takes a dig at Modi over middle-class welfare

Last Updated 25 December 2018, 16:24 IST

Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had recently skirted a question on taxation of the middle class from a BJP worker in Tamil Nadu.

“Vanakam Puducherry! That's NoMo's answer to the struggling middle class,” Rahul said on Twitter tagging a DH news report from Chennai on the prime minister's interaction through video conference with BJP workers from northern Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Faced with an uncomfortable question, Modi had told the questioner that since he was a trader it was but natural for him to talk only business and moved on to take questions from party workers in Puducherry.

“Forget a press conference he (Modi) can't even string together a polling booth worker's conference,” the Congress president tweeted.

“BJP-vetted question is a superb idea. Consider vetted answers as well,” Rahul signed off apparently referring to reports that the BJP was considering vetting questions from party workers before they are put to the prime minister during similar interactions in the future.

Rahul has also been targeting Modi for not addressing a press conference during his tenure in office.

Earlier this month, the Congress president had posted photographs from a press conference he had addressed in Hyderabad.

“Try one someday, it’s fun having questions thrown at you,” Rahul had said targeting Modi.
