Rahul taunts ‘gutsy’ Gadkari, gets it back

Last Updated 05 February 2019, 09:35 IST

Taking a dig at Nitin Gadkari, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday said the union minister was the only one in the BJP who has the guts, and asked him to comment on Rafale deal, job crisis, “farmers distress and destruction of institutions”.

Gadkari — who has been making headlines with his “frank” remarks — hit back, saying he was surprised that despite being the president of a national party, Rahul was taking the help of “news twisted by the media” to attack the Modi government.

“It is this success of the Modi government that you have to look for crutches to attack us,” he said.

“Gadkari Ji, compliments. You are the only one in the BJP with some guts. Please also comment on: The Rafale scam and Anil Ambani, farmers' distress and destruction of institutions,” Rahul said on Twitter tagging a report of Gadkari's remarks made at an ABVP event.

Gadkari had reportedly said “one who cannot take care of home cannot manage the country”.

“Oops, Gadkari Ji. Huge apology. I forgot the most important one... JOBS! JOBS! JOBS! JOBS!” he said later in another tweet.

Gadkari also took to Twitter to respond to Rahul's barbs.

“Rahul Gandhi ji, I do not need a certificate from you on my courage, but it is a matter of surprise that even after being the president of a national party you have to take the help of news twisted by the media to attack our government,” Gadkari said.

The Union Minister said Modi had made honest efforts to provide succour to farmers who had fallen on bad times due to the policies of the previous Congress government.

“As far as the issues raised by you are concerned, our government has negotiated the Rafale contract in the most transparent manner and by keeping national interest in mind,” Gadkari said.
