Railways to recruit 1.3 lakh more people soon

Indian Railways, which is under the process of filling 1.5 lakh vacant posts, is set to advertise to appoint another 1.3 lakh more jobs this week.

The railways will advertise fresh recruitment on Saturday. This time recruitment will be filling vacancies in trackmen, assistant station masters, guards, paramedics, nurses and commercial clerks said a senior official in the national transporter.

For these posts, applications will be invited next month. In this recruitment around 10 per cent of jobs will be reserved for economically weaker sections of general category. The process of submitting an application will start by end of next month.

The railways, which started recruiting to fill 1.5 lakh posts last year, is in the final stages of the process and is likely to announce the final list by end of next month.

The proposed recruitment will also fill the vacancies to be created due to the retirement of one lakh people in the next two years, said the official.

Earlier, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said that the railways would recruit 4 lakh people to fill the vacancies by 2021.

The total sanctioned strength in the railways stood at 15.6 lakh and in which 12.23 lakh people on rolls while remaining posts are vacant.
