JOIN USMonsoon rain pounded Kochi in Kerala, while Mumbai suburbs, parts of Vidarbha and Konkan regions received pre-monsoon showers even as Srinagar recorded the season’s hottest day at 34 degrees Celsius on Monday.
Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan sizzled with temperatures ranging between 42 and 47 degrees Celsius.
The monsoon rain in Kochi over the past couple of days left low-lying areas of the city inundated and flooded other roads. The India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall in Kerala till Wednesday. The southwest monsoon set in over Kerala on May 30.
According to IMD’s Mumbai-based Regional Meteorological Centre and Skymet Weather, pre-monsoon showers are expected to continue in Vidarbha and Konkan regions.
According to the IMD weather forecast, rain or thundershowers are expected in Konkan-Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada regions. As per Skymet, a trough is extending from Bihar up to Marathwada across Vidarbha. Due to this, Nagpur is expected to witness good rainfall activities during the span of next 24 to 48 hours. The temperatures at present are above the 40°C mark over most places in Vidarbha.
After few days of rain, Tamil Nadu once again began to reel under severe heat wave conditions as the temperature in most of the districts crossed 40-degree mark.
Except Kanyakumari, which received moderate rain, rest of the districts, including Chennai, Kancheepuram, Thiruvallur, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Vellore, Madurai, Trichy and neighbouring Puducherry felt the heat wave. A senior official from Regional Meteorological Centre said the southwest monsoon is yet to advance fully into Tamil Nadu.
Srinagar recorded season's highest temperature at 34 degrees Celsius on Monday, while Jammu city sizzled at 45.1 degrees Celsius.
