Raise Doklam with Xi: Rahul tells PM Modi

Last Updated 21 September 2018, 11:47 IST

Congress president Rahul Gandhi has nudged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to raise issues such as the Doklam crisis and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor in his discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday.

Rahul also took a dig at Modi saying he appeared "tense" during his meeting with Xi on Friday. Modi began his ice-breaking visit to China on Friday by meeting Xi at the Hubei Provincial Museum in Wuhan.

"Dear PM, Saw the live TV feed of your "No Agenda" China visit. You look tense," Rahul tweeted.

"A quick reminder: 1. DOKLAM 2. China Pakistan Eco Corridor passes through POK. That's Indian territory. India wants to hear you talk about these crucial issues. You have our support," the Congress president said.

Rahul, who is also a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, has been raising questions on the Doklam at the committee meetings.

At a meeting in February, Rahul had sought to know from Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale about China's intention behind Doklam and the steps taken by the government with respect to the permanent structures built by Chinese troops near the flashpoint zone.

The Congress had slammed the government for the "failure" of Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to confront China on the creation of a full-fledged military complex in Doklam right up to 10 metres from the Indian Army post.
