Ramjas College issue rocks panel meet

Last Updated 28 February 2017, 19:24 IST

The political slugfest over the Ramjas College violence on Tuesday echoed in the meeting of a Parliamentary panel where BJP members objected to any reference to the student clashes last week.

The altercation took place during a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs when chairman P Chidambaram asked Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi and Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik about the Ramjas College issue and Gurmehar Kaur’s complaint.

Parliament sources said BJP members Ramen Deka and Bishnu Pada Ray objected to Chidambaram raising the issue contending that it was not on the agenda for the day. Members of the Congress and the Trinamool Congress supported Chidambaram, who gave a ruling that such questions were permissible.
