Last Updated 26 October 2018, 12:48 IST

The armyman accused of raping the 19-year-old CBSE topper from Rewari had earlier called the victim's father his mentor.

The accused armyman, Pankaj, and another accused are at large even 6 days after the incident.

According to the victim's family, her father had motivated Pankaj to join the army. He had joined the army a year and a half ago. During one of the visits to his native village after he joined the army, the accused had even facilitated the girl's father at a panchayat session acknowledging his contribution.

The victim's father used to train youth from the village in Kabaddi. Pankaj was one of his students. The father's training had helped Pankaj participate in state-level championships, which eventually helped him get into the military through the sports quota.

It was this relationship that had helped Pankaj get closer to the family of the victim. The aggreived family looks back today with shock that a person they helped achieve something has done this to them.

The police today produced the main accused in the case, Nishu, and two others who were arrested, on Sunday before the court, which granted a five-day police remand.

A mahapanchayat held on Sunday said no advocate will fight for the accused. Pankaj's sister on Monday asked him to surrender.

The crime was a pre-planned one, with Nishu as the mastermind. He was the one who arranged the keys to the building where the victim was gang-raped. The family of the victim has declined the government aid of Rs 2 lakh provided to them.
