Nearly a week after he was reported missing, the body of missing RTI activist Vinayak Shirsat was found in a valley near Lavasa in Pune district.
The Bharatiya Vidyapeeth police station is investigating the case. The body was recovered on Monday evening from Mutha village on Lavasa road.
Initial investigations reveal that Vinayak could have been kidnapped, murdered and his body disposed of.
A resident of Shivane-Uttam Nagar, Sirsat has been pursuing cases against illegal construction in the Vadgaon-Dhayari areas of Pune - resulting in stop work notices and penalties.
Last week, his brother Kishore Sirsat had lodged a missing complaint after Vinayak did not return home.
His last known location is Mutha village.
It may be recalled, in January 2010, the murder of RTI activist Satish Shetty led to a big issue and the investigation was handed over to CBI.
