The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined to consider a plea challenging no stay order on Sabarimala judgement which allowed entry of women of all age groups into temple.
“Wait till January 22,” Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi led bench told advocate Mathews J Nedumpara who was seeking stay on its Sabarimala verdict.
The court on Tuesday agreed to give an open court hearing on January 22 on review petitions filed against the judgement by a five-judge bench allowing entry of women to the temple.
The court had then clarified there is no stay on the judgement.
On Wednesday, the counsel contended since there was no order in the judgement and there was only declaration of law on entry of women, the court should not have said there is no stay on the verdict.
The court, however, refused to consider the plea.
The Constitution bench had on September 28 by a majority of 4:1 had set aside the age-old prohibition of women between 10 and 50 years from entering the temple. It had passed the judgement on a petition filed by Indian Young Lawyers Association and others.
