TMC, Congress rubbish Amit Shah's allegations

Last Updated 03 May 2019, 07:00 IST

BJP president Amit Shah's attack on Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Congress on Tuesday generated a strong reaction from both the parties' West Bengal leadership. Not only did the TMC leadership alleged that Shah's allegations were factually incorrect but also said that it reflected BJP nervousness.

"After listening to the BJP president's speech in Malda it is obvious that they ( BJP) are extremely scared and nervous. They are heading for a big zero( in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections)," said TMC MP and national spokesperson Derek O' Brien.

He also dubbed Shah's speech as "low on facts and poor in taste."

Refuting Shah's criticism that the TMC government does not provide dearness allowance ( DA)to its employees at par with the Central government, TMC secretary general and Education Minister Partha Chatterjee said that the state government does not print notes so that they will be able to provide DA at par with the Centre.

"Earlier (during the Left Front government) state government employees used to get their salary on the 7th or 8th of every month. Now we have ensured that they get it on the first day of the month. The state government does not print notes and hence it is not that easy to provide DA at per with the Centre," said Chatterjee.

The state Congress leadership also lashed out at Shah for his allegation that Congress tried a lot to ensure that people of the country forget about Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

"BJP has abolished the Planning Commission which was the brainchild of Netaji and replaced it with the NITI Aayog," state Congress president Somen Mitra said.

Shah made the allegations on Tuesday at a party rally in Malda district.
