On Engineer's day, Google pays tribute to Sir MV

Remembered as Sir MV, Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya's birthday is celebrated as Engineer's Day.

With a sketch of Sir M Visvesvaraya and one of his most notable works, the Krishna Raja Sagar Dam in the background, Google paid tribute to the legendary engineer on his 157th birthday. Remembered as Sir MV, Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya's birthday is celebrated as Engineer's Day.

Born on 15th September 1861, Sir MV was raised in Karnataka's Muddenahalli village. He was a remarkable engineer, scholar, statesman, and also served as the 19th Diwan of Mysore, from 1912 to 1918.

In 1915, he was Knighted as a commander of the British Indian empire by King George V for his contributions to public service.

The Bharat Ratna Awardee was the chief engineer responsible for the construction of the Krishna Raja Sagara dam in Mandya district and the chief engineer of the flood protection system for the city of Hyderabad.

He breathed his last on 12th of April 1962. Sir MV's memorial stands in Muddenahalli, where the home he was born in has been converted into a museum.
