The State Intelligence personnel in Mysore are investigating the family background of Raksha J Urs, who along with her husband Ullas Prabhakar Khaire, was arrested in Delhi for their involvement in cheating lakhs of investors to the tune of Rs 500 crore.

Sources told Deccan Herald that alerted by the Delhi police, intelligence personnel in Mysore have been on the lookout for her kith and kin for the last one week, although to no avail.

Sources close to the family told this paper that Raksha had a troubled childhood with the split of her parents Maya Doddamani and father Jayashankar Urs aka Jayadevaraj Urs. She studied in a reputed CBSE school, but there are conflicting versions on whether she completed her Class 10.

“She was good in academics and scored between 70 per cent and 80 per cent,” sources close to her family said.

Raksha later joined Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts (CAVA), living at a paying guest accommodation. After her marriage in 2005, she nearly cut off all connections with Mysore. It was only after the scam that enquiries began to pour in about her life in Mysore.

Not much is known about her mother, and her father remains missing, another source told this paper.

Police said Raksha’s father is missing for the past one-and-half years. He is suspected to be a partner in Raksha’s crime. Another person said: “Maya Doddammanni and Jayashankar Urs are known for taking people for a ride. It is no surprise that Raksha has taken after them.”

Sources said the couple was also accused of setting on fire a girl child born out of Jayashankar’s first marriage. However, they were given a benefit of doubt and acquitted.
