Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday slammed the BJP for stalling Parliament on the coal block allocation controversy and alleged that holding Parliament to ransom by “blackmail” has become “political bread and butter” of the main opposition party.

Appealing the Congress members to “stand up” and fight aggressively, Gandhi said it is a “matter of shame and regret” that the BJP was not allowing Parliament to function.

Addressing the Congress Parliamentary Party meeting, Gandhi said: “At a time when serious issues are affecting our people and our country, Parliament is not being allowed to function.

This is the handiwork of just one party, the BJP. This once again shows that it has scant respect for democratic values.”
