Over 100 gelatin sticks, 350 detonators seized from train passenger in Kerala

In view of the forthcoming elections to the state Assembly, the RPF has intensified searches in trains recently

A woman was held with huge quantity of gelatin sticks and detonators from a train at Kozhikode Railway Station in Kerala.

The Tamil Nadu native woman travelling in a Chennai-Mangaluru superfast train reportedly told the Railway Protection Force (RPF) authorities that she was travelling to Thalasserry in Kannur district where she was engaged in well digging work and the explosives were meant for the purpose.

The woman, identified as Tiruvannamalai native Remani, was also having a travel ticket up to Thalasserry.

According to RPF officials, 117 gelatin sticks and 350 detonators were seized from her. It was hidden in a bag beneath the seat of the accused. The RPF spotted the bag during a routine check. A case was registered against her and detailed investigation is underway.

According to sources, since the Assembly elections are approaching, security agencies have stepped up vigil against smuggling of explosives, money and liquor.
