Kerala sports minister V Abdurahiman is facing strong criticism over a remark justifying higher tax on tickets for an upcoming cricket match in Thiruvananthapuram.
Abdurahiman said on Sunday that those who were starving need not watch cricket. He was reacting to criticisms that the tickets would become unaffordable for the common man as the tax will be higher.
While the entertainment tax for the tickets was earlier five percent, for India - Sri Lanka match on January 15 it will be 12 per cent.
Netizens are slamming the minister accusing him of insulting the poor. Many were also asking if the minister would ask that those starving need not to vote for him.
Opposition V D Satheesan of the Congress asked whether it was the attitude of the communist government in Kerala.
