Teen groped, abused in public in UP

A teenager was groped, molested and abused in public in Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur district on Thursday.

The shocking incident took place on a busy road near Jagadishpur village when the victim was on her way back home after attending coaching classes.

The matter came to light after a video showing a youth intercepting the girl, who was riding a bicycle, and trying to touch her inappropriately emerged.

The victim is seen walking from there without her bicycle but is intercepted again, this time by around four to five youths, who again tried to grope her. The victim was also abused by the youths, all residents of nearby villages.

The footage also showed people passing by but none of them interfered to try and rescue the girl. A passerby, however, recorded the victim's ordeal and uploaded it on the social media platforms.

District Superintendent of Police Dinesh Pal Singh said two youths have been arrested in this connection. "We identified two youths from the video and arrested them," Singh said.

Police said that efforts were on to trace the other youths. A case has been registered in this regard, they added.

Barely a few months ago, a girl was groped and molested on a road in Rampur district by about six youths, some as young as 12.
