Rahul slams Modi over death of Unnao rape witness

Last Updated 28 September 2018, 09:24 IST

Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the mysterious death and hurried burial of a key witness in the Unnao rape and murder case in which BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar is an accused.

It “smells of a conspiracy,” Rahul said.

“Is this your idea of 'justice for our daughters', Mr 56,” Rahul Tweeted.

Earlier, the CBI had filed a chargesheet in a Lucknow court against the BJP MLA, his brother and eight others, including three policemen, in its probe into the Arms Act case in which the politician had framed the Unnao gang-rape victim's father.

Rahul's remarks on the issue come a day after he voiced concern over the rising incidents of violence against women in the country.

He said he disagreed with the suggestion made in a recent survey that India was the worst place for women in the world.

“The single most important thing is to change the way India's men view India's women. Men have to start viewing women as equal and with respect. I am sorry to say that men do not,” Rahul had said in his interaction at the Bucerius Summer School in Hamburg in Germany.
