Despite the serious news of activists being arrested in connection with the Bhima Koregaon violence, the term 'Urban Naxal' became the butt of jokes on Twitter on Wednesday.
Twitter users came up with alternate terms like 'Urban Idiot', 'Bourbon Naxal' and 'Suburban Naxal' in response to the term 'Urban Naxal', to troll right-wing activists who for long have used social media to target Modi government critics.
You have to be an #UrbanIdiot of the highest order to believe in something so ridiculous like '#UrbanNaxal'.

Prior to that I considered him #UrbanIdiot only😁😁 https://t.co/53tcxNKHOY
Some even said that if you stay in the suburban area of a city, you can't be called an 'Urban Naxal'. Hence you should be termed a 'Suburban Naxal'.
If you live in NOIDA, are you a #SuburbanNaxal?

Why did you miss the category of #SuburbanNaxal? I find them more dangerous. Also don't forget #mufussilnaxal. They are not as innocent as you think. For now, are you counting #ruralnaxal heads? Because missing them would be a very bad mistake.

When you drink American whiskey, a 'Bourbon Naxal' is born, said one user.
If you have American finely distilled whiskey, are you a #BourbonNaxal?

While Sikhs are 'Turban Naxals', environmental activists are 'Carbon Naxals'. While 'Carbon Naxals' could also apply to anyone who copy-pastes the same content said one Twitter user.
Vivek ji I'm not sure about #UrbanNaxals but here are #TurbanNaxal and #BourbonNaxal pic.twitter.com/VPVEZfQsLn

An urban naxal,
who is also a sikh and wears dastaar : a turban naxal;
who is also a wine & cheese liberal : a bourbon naxal (credit: @vikramhegde);
who is also an environmental activist : a carbon naxal.
