Yet another UP cop killed in mob violence

Another policeman fell prey to mob violence in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.

The incident occurred which occurred in Ghazipur district, about 350 kilometres from Lucknow, comes days after the killing of Syana police station's in-charge, in Bulandshahr district, by a violent mob.

According to police sources in Lucknow, a police constable, identified as Suresh Vats, was killed when a mob pelted stones on the vehicles carrying police personnel, who were returning from the public meeting of prime minister Narendra Modi in Ghazipur town.

Sources said that members of 'Nishad' (boatmen) community, were staging a demonstration near Kathwa More to press for their demand for reservation, when the vehicles carrying the security personnel passed by.

The mob started pelting stones at the police, sources said adding that Vats, who suffered serious injuries on his head, succumbed on way to a hospital.

About a dozen police personnel also suffered injuries.

The situation was stated to be tense and additional security personnel had been rushed to the spot to maintain order, sources said.

Police sources said that some people had been detained in connection with the incident.

Barely a few days back a police inspector Subodh Kumar Singh was shot dead by a mob, comprising mainly saffron activists, in Bulandshahr district.

The mob had attacked the police outpost following the recovery of animal bones in nearby sugarcane fields.
