Deputy Commissioner P I Sreevidya directed the police to beef up security on account of Tipu Jayanti celebrations in Madikeri on November 10.

Speaking at a preparatory meeting on Monday, she said, “The programme will be held at Old Fort hall in Madikeri. Similarly, it will be held at Virajpet taluk office and Somwarpet Junior College hall.

She appealed to the public and religious leaders to maintain peace in the district. “No scope should be given for disrupting harmony in the district,” she said.

She said Tipu Jayanti is organised by the state government. No permission is given for organising Tipu Jayanti celebrations privately, installing flexes, banners and posters on Tipu Jayanti.

SP Suman D Pennekar also spoke in the meeting.
