No impact of transport strike in DK, Udupi

Last Updated 07 August 2018, 18:24 IST

The nation-wide transport strike did not have any impact in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, except for buses travelling from Mangaluru to Kasargod.

All the KSRTC buses operate normally in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. However, buses from Mangaluru to Kasargod stopped plying, following a total strike in Kerala. KSRTC Mangaluru division operates 35 buses to Kasargod. Even Kerala State Road Transport Corporation operates 35 buses on the stretch.

Autorickshaws operated normally in Mangaluru. The transport strike in Kasargod affected college students coming to Mangaluru. Majority of the students who come from Kasargod could not attend college.

Motor Transport and Engineering Workers Union affiliated to CITU has urged the Centre to withdraw the Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Bill 2017.

In a press release, General Secretary Vasanth Achary said that the Bill has an impact on bus, tempo, autorickshaw, maxicab employees, car and lorry drivers. The insurance premium amount should be reduced. The social security should be guaranteed to the labour class, he added.
