Postal employees demand scrapping of NPS

Demanding the scrapping of NPS and introduction of the old pension scheme, the members of All India Postal Employees Association and National Postal Employees Association Action Committee staged a protest in Chikkamagaluru on Tuesday.

The protesters said that the recommendations of Kamalesh Chandra report should be implemented for the welfare of Dak Sevaks.

All the vacant posts in the Department of Posts should be filled. Five days work in a week should be implemented for the department staff. The postal department should not be privatised, were their other demands.

Joint Action Committee district president D M Lokappa Gowda said the old pension system should be reintroduced.

The NPS will not be of any benefit to the employees. The discrimination in the implementation of seventh pay commission recommendations should be sorted out, he demanded.

The Kaveri Grameena Bank Employees Association members staged a protest against the privatisation of Grameena banks.

The retirement scheme of the commercial banks should be extended to Grameena banks and the daily
wage labourers system should be suspended and service of daily wage labourers should be regularised, they demanded.

Akhila Bharatha Bank Employees Association members staged a protest against the merger and privatisation of banks.

The members gathered at Canara Bank main branch in Chikkamagaluru and shouted slogans against the merger of banks.

The protesters urged the authorities to fill the vacant posts in the banks and strengthen the banking system in the country.
