Pregnant woman taken to hospital in cattle tempo

As even after waiting for two-and-half hours, the ambulence did not arrive, a pregnant woman had to travel in a sheep transporting vehicle to reach the District Hospital here on Friday.

Lakshmamma of Marikanive village of Hiriyur taluk, who was pregnant developed labour pains in the morning. Her parents took her to Madadakere.

As there were no doctors at the primary health centre, the nurse there suggested them to take her to the District Hospital.

Even after two-and-half hours of calling an amblulence, it did not arrive. Lakshmamma parents started looking for a private vehicle, but could not get one.

As Lakshmamma’s labour pains increased, she had to be inevitably taken to the hospital in the sheep transporting tempo. As the road was in poor condition, the vehicle went via the HD Pur route. The patient had to travel in the tempo 35 kms to reach the hospital.

The pregnant woman along with three more women and her husband had to travel in the tempo which was big enough for only the sheep to stand.
