JOIN USDeputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil directed all the ULBs and taluk panchayat EOs to prepare an estimate for cleaning all stormwater drains in their jurisdiction in the month of April and May.
Speaking at the Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting chaired by MP Nalin Kumar Kateel recently, he said that shoddy preparedness for the monsoon results in an artificial flood.
“This year’s rain havoc should be a lesson for all of us. The EOs and ULB heads should prepare an estimate for clearing the stormwater drains well in advance and the work should be taken up in the month of April and May rather than waiting for the monsoon,” he added.
The silt from the rajakaluve at Bangra Kulooru should be removed to ensure that there is no flooding in the area surrounding Bangra Kulooru, said the DC.
Unauthorised bus stand
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel directed the officials from National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to clear all the unauthorised structures including bus shelters and food joints beside National Highway 66. Private individuals should be not be allowed to construct a bus shelter beside the National Highway, he added.
Food joints that have come up beside the national highway have been creating traffic congestion, said the MP.
Even the DC directed the NHAI officials to mark the unauthorised structures and clear it with the help of the police. The Supreme Court had issued guidelines stating that all unauthorised religious structures that have come up after 2009 can be cleared.
Earlier, the DC took NHAI officials to task on the poor progress of work on flyovers at Pumpwell and Thokkottu and directed them and the Navayug Constructions (contractor) to submit the progress details of the work every week.
Kuloor bridge
The DC said that he will inspect the alternative routes suggested by a committee headed by the assistant commissioner, for the movement of vehicles, to facilitate the closure of the old bridge across Phalguni (Gurupura) at Kuloor on National Highway 66.
The NHAI had found that the bridge has become weak during a recent survey of bridges under its network.
An NHAI official said that two-wheelers and light vehicles can be allowed on the bridge. The proposal for the new bridge has been submitted to the ministry for approval.
Work on NH 234
NH division of PWD Executive Engineer Subbarama Holla said that the work on widening NH 234 from B C Road to Poonjalkatte, covering a 20-km stretch has been taken up at a cost of Rs 159 crore.
The first four kilometres of the stretch from B C Road will be concreted along with developing it as a four-lane stretch. The remaining 16-km will be asphalted along with widening the road.
Plastic park
Department of Industries Joint Director Gokuldas Nayak said that the plastic park has been proposed at a cost of Rs 152 crore, at Ganji Mutt on 104 acres of land. As many as 32 companies have shown interest in the plastic park.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel directed accelerate of the work on the plastic park.
‘Inspect bridge’
Senthil directed the NH executive engineer to inspect the Gurpura bridge built across Phalguni river once in three months and check for any cracks in the bridge. He said that the bridge inspection vehicle should be pressed into service.
