Rapido distributes 150 helmets to riders

MLA Vedavyas Kamath distributed free helmets to riders not wearing the head gear and to those wearing helmets without ISI marks on Monday.

He distributed after flagging off the Rapido Bike Taxi services in Mangaluru as a part of the 30th National Road Safety Week programme.

Over 150 helmets were distributed on the occasion. The MLA, along with the Rapido officials, spoke in detail about the importance of road safety to all the riders who received helmets.

Rates for services

Although the Rapido Bike Taxi services were introduced in the city on December 26, the official launch was on Monday. The services are available across Mangaluru from Nethravathi bridge to Surathkal. It is operating currently at a cost of Rs 15 per 3 km, and an additional amount of Rs 3 a km. Already, 500 people have registered as captains so far and about 300 people are using the services daily.

The Rapido Bike Taxi services offer a novel take on an age-old concept of transport by replacing the conventional four-wheeler taxis with motorbikes. The Rapido services have been widely received in South India, and the company is looking to expand its reach across the country gradually.

Why Rapido

The main aim of Rapido services is to provide economical, cost-effective, fuel-efficient and time-saving transport. The organisation wants to tackle the issues that commuters face due to heavy traffic conditions, especially during the rush hours in the morning.

The services can be used by merely downloading the Rapido mobile app and booking one’s ride. A rider, titled Rapido Captain will come and pick the customer up from the location and drop him or her off at the desired destination, explained Bharath, operations head for Rapido.
