Recipe: indulge in this healthy, tasty apple smoothie

An apple a day keeps the doctor away, but eating a plain apple every day can get boring. This apple smoothie provides all the benefits of apples. And the best part is that it tastes just like apple pie.

DH lists some of the benefits of apples:

Being high in fibre and water, apples are filling and can help curb overeating.

Some compounds in them can help with weight loss.

Apples may help in lowering cholesterol, blood pressure and the risk of stroke.

Apples may decrease the risk of Type 2 diabetes.

Antioxidants found in apples can counteract the effects aging has on the skin.

Ingredients:

2 apples, peeled and sliced

1 ripe banana, previously peeled, chopped and frozen

1/2 cup Greek yogurt

1/2 cup milk

1/2 tsp vanilla essence

1/2 tsp allspice

1 tbsp cinnamon

honey, to taste

Yields 2 servings

Directions: In a food processor or blender, pulse the banana and apples until no lumps remain. Add the rest of the ingredients and blend until smooth. Pour into a tall glass and garnish with cinnamon and/ or apple slices if desired.
