<p>Amith Kumar of Mysore set a new meet record to win the men’s long jump as the athletics events of the Dasara Games kickstarted here on Sunday.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Amith leapt to 7.62 metres to erase the mark of 7.09 metres set by Suresh Angadi way back in 1991. <br /><br />Bangalore City’s Suraj Mondal claimed silver at 7.06 metres while V V Sathyanarayana of Belgaum claimed the bronze with an effort of 7.00 metres.<br /><br />Three other meet records were set on the day. Mohan Kumar M C claimed the shot put gold with a 15.92M effort and Mysore won the men’s 4x400M relay with a time of 3:17.17, both new marks. In the women’s 4x400, Mysore clocked 3:59.57 for another meet record.<br />Sonith Mendon of Mysore and H M Jyothi of Bangalore City emerged the fastest athletes of the meet, winning the men’s and women’s 100M respectively. <br /><br />Mendon clocked 10.65 seconds to emerge champion in the men’s section, finishing ahead of fellow Mysore athlete Vikas Putran (10.72) and Bangalore Rural’s V Arun Kumar (10.89). <br />International Jyothi, who is back after becoming a mother, clocked 10.90 seconds to finish well ahead of Mysore’s Reena George (12.10).
