Mani Maran converted from the spot while Santhosh Kumar fired home a long-ranger as the home side notched up its second win from three matches at the Bala Gangadharanatha Swamy International Residential School grounds.

Government Sports School will now lock horns in a crucial encounter with Don Bosco High School on Thursday, with the winner well placed to enter the final in the six-team competition.

The impressive Sukantha Nagar Vidhya Niketan, Kolkata all but confirmed their spot in the April 30 title clash at the Sree Kanteerava stadium after drubbing Infant Jesus High School, Goa 6-0 for their third win in as many matches.

Government Sports School began favourites against St Joseph’s and the home side lived up to expectations, dominating their Calicut-based opponents. They earned a penalty kick in the 10th minute which ‘Star Performer of the Match’ Maran converted successfully.

Despite the numerous raids, St Joseph’s held on grimly but were left stunned when Santhosh fired home from distance in the 35th minute to seal victory for the Bangalore school.
