Confidence, self-belief did the trick for Ojha

Last Updated 07 June 2009, 17:32 IST

“It was quite chilly but thanks to IPL I managed to adjust to the conditions. I did learn to bowl in cold conditions in South Africa. I bowled quite well in the IPL, so I had a lot of confidence and I backed myself,’’ Ojha told reporters in the post-match press conference.
The Hyderabadi said varying the tactics was important for a bowler to be successful in T20 format. “It was helping a bit when you were bowling a bit slow. Their spinners also got a bit of help when they bowled. I think varying pace is important for me and I feel when I flight the ball it helps me a lot. Obviously, Twenty20 is a batsman’s game. So I think they will try to dominate you but I try to stay cool and back myself,’’ Ojha said.

The youngster said he was not under any pressure in his maiden international T20. “Not really, I just had a blank mind. I didn’t think about anything. I just wanted to come and bowl. It was my debut and I didn’t want to put pressure on myself. I wanted to bowl the way I have ben bowling.

“We are the defending champions so when you get into the team there is a lot of responsibility on you. I feel great that whatever faith my coach and captain had on me, I was able to stand by it,’’ he elaborated.

Ojha said it was team work that helped India win. “I think everyone contributed equally and especially Yuvi bhai with the bat and he did well in the field as well.’’

Bangladesh coach Jamie Siddons said India’s batting might made the difference. “The Indian batsmen kept coming at us. They have amazing fire power and when we dismissed Dhoni, Yuvraj came and smashed all those sixes. Such is the explosive power of their line-up.”
