'Fielding a concern'

Shipperd said his players need to get their act together quickly in these two departments of the game if they want to counter the likes of Sangakkara, Jean Paul Duminy, Bharat Chipli and Shikhar Dhawan.

In their match against Pune Warriors in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, Delhi’s Ashok Dinda dropped Jesse Ryder twice who then went on to score 60 off only 27 balls to help his side post a challenging 187 for five.

“Our fielding has been a bit sloppy and we need to improve on that. We need to get our acts together quickly,” Shipperd told reporters here.

“I was pleased with how we bowled in the middle overs. We gave 20 runs less and were able to restrict them to 187. Our batsmen chipped in with useful contributions to chase down the target. Our batting was superb,” the coach added.

Shipperd also said that the South African pacer Morne Morkel, who was forced to sit out of Sunday’s match due to an injury, has a strong chance of playing against Chargers.

“Morne has a strong chance of playing tomorrow. He bowled at the nets today. He is looking good and we hope that he will play tomorrow. He is a smart bowler and has got bounce, pace and swing. We will definitely like to see him in the playing eleven,” he said.

“Our players responded very well yesterday. Everyone was criticising us that we have got so many youngsters in the side but everyone chipped in against Pune Warriors. We learnt a lot from our last two outings.”
