The Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) has recommended Manika Batra for the prestigious Arjuna Award following her stellar show in the just concluded Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast.

The TTFI secretary-general MP Singh said they have also recommended the name of Harmeet Desai, who won gold (men's team) and bronze medal (men's doubles) at the Commonwealth Games.

“We have recommended Manika for the Arjuna Award. It was already in our mind to recommend her this year but her exemplary show in Commonwealth Games has now added to her points and strengthened her case more than ever,” Singh told DH.

Manika, 22, became the most successful 2018 Commonwealth Games athlete following her conquest of four medals. She made history by spearheading India to a maiden team gold before going onto win a singles gold. She then clinched women’s doubles silver with Mouma Das and mixed doubles bronze with G Sathiyan.
