Pacers Asif, Aamer put Pakistan back on track

Last Updated 27 November 2009, 17:54 IST

After surrendering a 97-run lead, Pakistan almost neutralised the disadvantage with a good exhibition of pace bowling in restricting the Kiwis to 147 for eight in 61.5 overs in the second innings at the University Oval.

Resuming from their overnight score of 307 for eight in 90 overs, Pakistan innings lasted only 6.5 overs with Shane Bond and Chris Martin doing the clean-up act. While Bond picked up a five-for, Martin supported his new-ball partner with three wickets.
However, New Zealand’s hopes of driving home the advantage were dented by Asif and Aamer. Asif set himself up for a five-wicket haul with four for 47 and Aamer scalped two for 29.
