Pak government allows sports persons to travel to India

Last Updated 18 July 2009, 07:14 IST

Asian junior table tennis championship will be held in Jaipur and Asian squash championship will be orgainsed in Chennai later this month.
Sports minister Aftab Shah Jillani told newsmen on Friday that they were in favour of normalising sporting ties with India.
"Unfortunately while we are looking forward to restoring bilateral sporting ties with India we are not getting the same response from them," Jillani said.
Pakistan and India have frozen bilateral sporting ties since the Mumbai terror attacks last November.

The Indian government had refused to send its cricket team to Pakistan early this year and the Pakistan government also did not allow its players to take part in the Indian Premier League.
Hockey ties between the two nations were also affected due to the tense relations between the two nations.

Jillani said the ministry will not discourage bilateral ties but it expected the Indians to respond accordingly.
"We have always said that sports should not be mixed with politics and hopefully bilateral ties will resume in cricket and hockey as well," he added.
