Tamil Nadu win overall team title; Kerala second

Tamil Nadu won the overall team championships in the National inter-zonal athletics championships that concluded here on Tuesday.

Tamil Nadu tallied 440.5 points to emerge ahead of Kerala, who had 378 points.
Tamil Nadu sprinters Augustine Yesudas and S Archana were named the best athletes in the junior section.

Tamil Nadu’s Dharun was adjudged the best athlete in the boys’ under-18 section while Kerala’s Jessy Joseph, who set a new record in the 800M on the final day, bagged the honours in the girls under-18 category.

Bengal quartermilers Chandan Bauri and Tiasha Sammadder won the best athlete awards in the under-16 section while Tamil Nadu’s R Naveen and S Lithiya were named the best in the under-14 section.

On the concluding day, Yesudas won the boys’ U-20 200M gold timing 21.60 seconds.
