Atkinson had a close look at the conditions on offer at the Chinnaswamy stadium with KSCA secretary Brijesh Patel for company. Earlier this year, an ICC inspection team had given playing facilities at the Chinnaswamy stadium thumbs down, but quite obviously, a lot of work has gone into getting things up to scratch since then.

“The inspection is a routine affair. There were reports earlier about the pitch but it is all sorted now,” Patel said later.

During IPL III, the Chinnaswamy strip was universally acknowledged as the best surface in the country, a tribute to the hard work of curator Narayan Raju and his team. The ground also bagged the ‘best ground’ award at the IPL awards night in April.
Bangalore will host four World Cup matches next year.
