Centurion Shalabh Srivastava and Aditya Shanware, who missed his three-figure score narrowly, batted Vidarbha Cricket Association into a position of strength on the opening day of their semifinal against KSCA XI in the Dr (Capt) K Thimmappaiah memorial invitational cricket tournament here at the Chinnaswamy stadium on Saturday.

Shrivastava stroked his way to 145 (196b, 20x4) while Shanware fell on 94 as the duo raised a mammoth 226 runs in 358 balls to power Vidarbha to a comfortable 311 for six in 90 overs.

Ravi Janged (30) and Aditya Sarvate (33) were in the middle at close of day one. Seamer S Arvind was the most successful bowler grabbing 2/44.

Haryana hit back

In another semifinal at the Alur ground, Haryana Cricket Association hit back through Jayant Yadav after being dismissed for a modest total.

Despite Rahul Dalal’s sparkling ton (112, 152b, 13x4, 2x6), Haryana could muster only 221 all out in 62.1 overs against Dr DY Patil Academy as Manjeet Chaudhary (4/50) caused havoc with able support from Iqbal Abdulla (2/41).
