To mark the 72nd Independence Day, the Mangalore Bicycle Club (MBC) celebrated the occasion in a unique manner. As many as 72 cyclists of the city rode bicycles for 72 minutes continuously, to pay tribute to the nation.
The 72-minute cycle marathon was flagged in front of Mangaluru City Corporation. The cyclists covered a distance of nearly 20 km in 72 minutes. People of age 6 to 75 years took part. All riders proudly displayed the tricolour on their bicycles.
“We were inspired by stories of bravery of Indian Army personnel. MCB's own cycling enthusiast Captain Rajaneesh Linekaje, is currently posted in Kashmir and is defending the nation” said one of the participants.
They passed through Urwa store -Ladyhill- Mannagudda- Ballalbagh- PVS- Ambedkar Circle- Balmatta- Kankanady- Mangaladevi- Forum Mall- Hampankatta- Navbharath Circle, before culminating in front of MCC, at Lalbagh.
Participants from BNI (Business Network International), led by its Regional Director Ganesha Sharma too joined the marathon. Senior cyclist Ashokvardhana also participated.
