The state government will soon prepare an action plan to adopt Israel technology on drip irrigation in Karnataka, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy announced on Monday.

Kumaraswamy received a report submitted by a high-level committee constituted to study the technology. The panel, among others, has suggested the optimal use of water, focus on rainwater harvesting, a strong policy to prevent harvesting of water-intensive crops and providing an incentive to micro-irrigation. The committee comprised ministers M C Managuli, N H Shivashankar, Bandeppa Kashemapur, Cooperation Secretary Manoj Rajan among others.

Kumaraswamy assured another delegation of farmers which met him in Belagavi that the government will make all efforts to ensure farmers get to make their sugarcane dues from the bill.

The delegation led by farmer leader Kodihalli Chandrashekar said the government should encourage the use of “vacuum packs” to ensure a long shelf-life for agricultural produce.
