After a lull, heavy rains lash Cauvery basin districts

Parts of Hyderabad-Karnataka and Old Mysore region received moderate to heavy rains on Sunday night and Monday morning.

Though the rain brought some respite from weeks of sweltering heat, it affected normal life in Mysuru. There were no reports of loss of life, but stray incidents of wall collapses and tree falls occurred.

Heavy rains, accompanied by thunder and lightning, lashed many parts of Mysuru and Mandya districts since early Monday morning. Due to the downpour, rainwater entered low-lying areas in Shanti Nagar, Ramakrishna Nagar. A wall of library building collapsed at Vidyaranyapuram in Mysuru city.

Rainwater flooded Nalleshwara temple at Hinkal in Mysuru city. District in-charge minister G T Devegowda visited the temple and other affected areas.

A tree branch on a stretch between Ittigegud and Hardinge Circle came crashing down halting traffic for nearly 30 minutes.

Due to heavy rainfall, a holiday was declared to schools in HD Kote taluk. Similarly, several roads in Sargur town were blocked.

In Mandya, drain water entered houses in KHB Colony. It started raining around 2 am and continued till the morning. Srirangapatna taluk received 52.5 mm of rain, Maddur, Mandya, Malavalli taluks received 48.9, 45.2 and 40.01 mm of rainfalls respectively.

Pandavapura, KR Pet and Nagamangala taluks received 33.4 mm, 29.5 mm and 24.3 mm of rainfalls respectively.

Hassan, Sakleshpur, Alur, Belur and adjoining villages received normal rains.

Gundlupet taluk in Chamarajanagar district too received good rainfall. It also rained heavily at Bandipur, Mangala and other areas.

The rainwater entered a few houses in Gundlupet town.Kurugodu in Ballari taluk and surrounding village recorded 23.6 mm rainfall. Due to flash floods, a bridge between Hagalur-Hosalli was completely submerged halting movement.

It rained heavily at Handihal village in the taluk. As the rain water gushed inside houses, utensils were seen floating.

People were stranded inside their houses for hours. There were similar reports form Toranagallu and Siraguppa.

Most taluks in Tumakuru district too received moderate to heavy rains since Sunday night mostly filling tanks and wells at most places.
