A direct attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for supervising “purchase of MLAs” and indications of coming together of the anti-BJP block formed part of Opposition parties’ reaction on Saturday.

Opposition parties cried victory for democracy, as Yeddyurappa did not seek a trust vote after realising that the BJP could not muster numbers to form the government.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi attacked Modi claiming that the prime minister symbolised corruption by “directly authorising the purchase of MLAs” in the state.

“You have seen openly right in front of you how the prime minister directly authorised the blind purchasing of MLAs in Karnataka. So the idea that he is fighting corruption is a blatant lie. He is corruption. There are phone conversations (of BJP leaders trying to buy out MLAS). Those were directly authorised from Delhi,” Gandhi told reporters.
