Belagavi corporator climbs light pole to protest

Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) corporator Sarala Herekar from ward no. 41, (Sadashivanagar & surroundings), climbed a high mast light pole on Tuesday, to protest against unfixed street lights in her ward.

Accompanied by a few supporters, Herekar climbed the high mast pole with a ladder and stood on it. Efforts by police and other officials to persuade her to climb down failed.

Herekar stated that the people from her area were facing problems because streetlights and high mast lights had fused out. Even lights in the graveyard were fused out she added. She dared the civic body officials to recommend her name for suspension, for protesting.

Commissioner Shashidhar Kurer arrived at the spot and assured Herekar that streetlights in her ward would be fixed. Herekar then came down the pole.
