Breathing space in Shimoga

Last Updated 20 November 2009, 17:04 IST

Speaking to reporters here, Simon Bishop, Global Policy and Communications Manager said, “Indoor Air Pollution (IAP) is the emission generated by traditional wood, dung and biomass gas. As these kind of energy sources are used extensively by the rural population in India, more than 4,00,000 people die annually of IAP.”

The on-going campaign that will reach 111 villages in Shimoha district will promote the usage of improved stoves, which will significantly reduce emissions and fuel use, explained Anuradha Bhavnani, Regional Director, Shell Foundation.
