CAG report: BJP demands House panel

Last Updated 08 December 2018, 19:03 IST

The BJP on Saturday demanded the formation of a legislature committee to look into non-reconciliation of expenditure to the tune of Rs 30,000 crore under the previous Siddaramaiah-led Congress regime.

The BJP has accused then chief minister Siddaramaiah of financial irregularities based on a report by the Comptroller & Auditor-General (CAG), in which it has observed that “reconciliation of expenditure was completed for a value of Rs 1.30 lakh crore,” which is
81% of the total expenditure of Rs 1.60 lakh crore.”

“Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy keeps saying that he is not under anybody’s influence. If that is the case, let him act on the Comptroller & Auditor-General report. Where did the unaccounted for money go? Where was it misused? Whose pocket has it reached? Let there be a House committee to probe this,” BJP general secretary C T Ravi told a news conference here.

Congress leader V R Sudarshan hit back, saying it was “childish” to demand a House committee when the Public Accounts Committee was headed by BJP leader R Ashoka. “Siddaramaiah has presented the budget for a record 13 times. There’s no chance of any lapse on his part,” he said, accusing the BJP of using the Comptroller & Auditor-
General to reap political dividends.
