CM directly responsible for farmer suicides: Shah

Last Updated 28 April 2018, 02:45 IST

BJP national president Amit Shah has held Chief Minister Siddaramaiah “directly responsible” for the raise in farmer suicides in the state.

“More than 3,700 farmers have ended their lives in Karnataka. The suicide rate has increased by a whopping 173%. Despite this pathetic situation, Siddaramaiah claims to have fulfilled 99% of the poll promises. But, his only achievement is raise in farmer suicides,” Amit Shah chided. He was addressing an election rally at Kukanur in Koppal district on Friday.

Launching a tirade against the state government, Shah said that law and order had collapsed in Karnataka. He said women were feeling unsafe and corruption had become rampant during the Congress rule.

He said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had chosen to contest from Badami also fearing defeat in his home constituency. “How can you expect him to ensure victory of other candidates?” he said. Predicting that BJP candidate Sriramulu will trounce Siddaramaiah in Badami, Shah said that BJP government led by B S Yeddyurappa will come to power in Karnataka after the May 12 elections.

“As soon as the BJP comes to power we will chase the killers of party workers and drive them to jail. Congress should be ashamed of entering into an electoral understanding with SDPI, which has links with killers of BJP activists.”

Referring to a video showing Rahul Gandhi asking the organisers of a programme to shorten playing of Vande Matharam, Shah said that a person who has no time to hear Vande Matharam is unfit to be in politics.

Calling upon people to decide whether they want a “committed” government or “corrupt” rule, Shah accused the Congress government of neglecting North Karnataka and Hyderbad Karnataka regions. “Irrigation facility has reached only one percent of these parts of Karnataka. The BJP, if voted to power, will make Karnataka free from drought by 2022,” Shah declared.
